The McAllen Holiday Parade, presented by La Plaza Mall, has attracted over 250,000 residents and visitors from all over the nation. This year’s parade, to be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016, is the largest illuminated holiday and helium balloon parade in Texas. It features more than 50 vibrant-lighted floats, 36 larger-than-life inflatable character balloons, 15 bands and a celebrity-filled lineup. And this year, the parade will feature the musical theme of Entertainment on Parade.
The one-and-a-half mile-long parade route begins at 6:00 PM at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium on Bulldog Drive where reserved seating is available. It will then head south on Bicentennial Blvd. to U.S. Business 83 where free seating is available along the route on a first-come, first-served basis.
Dallas Cowboys, the Texas A&M Fighting Aggie Band and More!
The Dallas Cowboys’ running back, Ezekiel Elliot, who leads the NFL with 799 yards in only eight weeks, and receiver Cole Beasley, with 37 catches for 443 yards and three touchdowns, will be the Grand Marshals with the team’s other running back, Darius Jackson, also to be in attendance.
In celebration of Texas A&M University’s new satellite campus in McAllen, the Texas A&M Fighting Aggie Band will kick off the parade’s entertainment with an on-field performance. Joining the band will be local children’s dance and choir groups and the culturally popular Hispanic holiday tradition of La Posada, which reenacts Joseph and Mary’s search for lodging.
Getting the family to the parade will not be difficult as McAllen, in a partnership with South Texas College, will offer a free McAllen Holiday Parade Park and Ride from its Pecan Blvd. campus to the location drop-off. Starting on Saturday, trolleys will make a continuous loop every 10 minutes from a pick-up point at STC to the parade drop-off point.
Additionally, with almost 15 designated parking lots scattered from Nolana Ave. south to Pecan Blvd., attendees are encouraged to park early to avoid road closures and traffic congestion since approximately 220,000 spectators are expected to line the streets of McAllen to view the parade. Public restroom facilities will be located throughout the parade route.
Tickets to view the parade from Veterans Memorial Stadium are on sale at the McAllen Convention Center Box Office or at Ticketmaster. The stadium seats 13,000 so join neighbors, friends and visitors in McAllen for one of the best seats in the house!
