Spring Break is in full effect! And while families are going out of town battling off crowds of long lines to explore new adventures, McAllen has a number of adventures waiting for you! While most residents know everything there is to know about McAllen, we can bet they haven’t tried all the activities that the city has to offer! So this Spring Break, if you aren’t traveling here are 10 new things to try in McAllen.
Paddle, Pedal and SUP – Town Lake
Town Lake at Firemen’s Park has an array of activities for the whole family to do. Learn how to stand up paddle board and even use it as part of your workout. They have stand up paddle boarding workout classes on Saturday and Sundays. Or pedals or more your thing? They have pedal boats and kayaks to get you racing out on the lake. Whatever you prefer, Town Lake at Firemen’s Park has what you need to try something new this Spring Break!

It’s been more than 10 years since it last snowed. So anything cold here usually melts instantaneously except at Frio Grande Valley Ice Center where you can skate your heart away instead of melting from the sun. It’s the perfect place to learn how to skate, sign up for a hockey league or join club skate every Friday and Saturday! This Spring Break try master the ice skates.

Let’s break down what snookball is. It’s a combination of the game on a billiard table called snooker and one of the most popular sports in the Rio Grande Valley, soccer or what is popularly called in other parts of the world football. Snooker + Football (Soccer) = Snookball. Compete with your friends in at the only Snookball Game Center in the RGV! Not only can you bring the entire family to see who conquers snookball but you have a whole array of games to play including foosball, air hockey, darts, and skeetball. For spring break Snookball Alley is having a 2 for $20 all day special! It’s the perfect chance for you to come in a try this new sensation!

Yoga – McAllen Nature Center
If you haven’t tried yoga, you might think that it’s just where people try and make human pretzels of themselves. Actually, it’s much more intricate than that. Yoga provides your body with more flexibility and can improve your posture and breathing. You can read more about Yoga here. But, if you’re looking to try yoga this Spring Break, there is no better place than at McAllen Nature Center. Come and try out Sunset Yoga and Tia Chi in the Park this Friday and Saturday!

Attend Nature Speaker Series at Quinta Mazatlán
At first, Spring Break is awesome but then getting into day two, you might be getting bored wondering what is there to do where you live. Well, one activity you must try is the Nature Speaker Series at Quinta Mazatlán World Birding Center. This Thursday, you can learn about Aliens and Wildlife: The Spread of Non-Native Vegetation from guest speaker, Tony Henehan. You’ll learn about the negative effects of non-native grasses on wildlife and what you can do to prevent the decrease of nature!
