Spring Break is just around the corner! This means that for a whole week, students, teachers and families will be wondering what adventures they can take on. From outdoor activities to discovering a whole new world of art and science, McAllen has everything you’ll need for a fun and adventurous Spring Break!

International Museum of Art & Science

The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) always has tons of activities for the entire family. This premier art and science museum contains over 50,000 square feet of exhibit space. IMAS hosts a number of revolving art and science events each year that provide a unique opportunity for visitors to participate in hands-on science exhibits to learn about original works of art that encourage creativity and innovation. Quinta Mazatlán World Birding Center

Built in 1935, this Spanish Revival Style mansion was a private and rather luxurious residence complete with a Roman tub. It has the distinction of being one of the largest adobe structures in Texas (10,000 square feet). Quinta Mazatlán is now an urban sanctuary that works to enrich people’s lives by sharing knowledge about birds, plants and environmental stewardship in South Texas. It also hosts a number of family fun events, from “Garden Walks” to “Discover Days”, that require hands-on activities with crafts and exploration! For more information, click here.

McAllen Public Library

Open a world of wonder at the McAllen Public Library during Spring Break. Along with countless books, the Library will also be having events throughout March for teens and young children. From introductions and creative writing, to bubble mania, your kids will find something interesting to learn about and share! For a list of events, click here.

Ice Skating/Roller Skating

Where can you ice skate in 90-degree weather? At Frio Grande Valley Ice Center, of course! They offer ice hockey, figure skating and much more. If you’re new to ice skating, Frio Grande Valley has skating classes Mondays through Thursdays from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Registered as a United States Figure Skating program, Frio will have you skating like a pro before Spring Break is over!

Now, if roller skates are more your thing, head over to Fantasyland Skate Center! Other than skating, this location also has lock-ins complete with contests and prizes for skaters over seven years of age. For updates on lock-Ins or skating times, click here.

Town Lake at Firemen’s Park

Paddle your heart out this Spring Break! Saturday and Sundays between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM at Town Lake in McAllen are full of fun out on the water. With options to pedal boat, kayak or stand-up paddleboard, the whole family will have a blast. Town Lake also provides opportunities to fish! Fishing is catch-and-release only, and a valid state fishing license is required for ages 17 and up. For more information on events and services, click here.

McAllen Municipal Pool

Splish and splash while having a blast! Get a taste of summer fun in McAllen with public swimming from March 12ththrough the 18th between 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the McAllen Municipal Pool. Activities ranging from learning the basics of swimming to canoeing will be held between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM throughout the week. Participants will also earn a special prize!
