5 Ways to Kick Off the Beginning of May with a Great Weekend in McAllen!

McAllen has become a hotspot to spend leisure time, and it’s certainly no coincidence. This weekend is no exception! There will be so many events going on that you definitely won’t want to miss any of them. From Cinco de Mayo to early Mother’s Day celebrations, there’ll be so much happening! The best thing about this is that all of these events are completely diverse, catering to people of different interests.

Saturday

For Car Show Lovers

Cinco de Mayo Classic Car Festival – Las Palmas Community Center – 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
This is a free, family-friendly event that will have food trucks, a balloon artist, DIY piñata-making, face-painting, a salsa competition and food sampling. In addition, there will also be a BBQ cook-off, vendor booths, raffle prizes, live music, mariachi performances, trophies for winners and a performance by Las Palmas Folklorico. There will also be an Adult Car Awards show at 1:00 PM followed by the Kid’s Awards for Best Decorated, Best Overall, Las Palmas Community Center Favorite at 1:30 PM. For the Social Butterflies

Celebrating Mom – Clarion INN McAllen – 10:00 AM-3:00 PM
RGV Queens is hosting a super stylish event to celebrate Mom at Clarion Inn McAllen this Saturday from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM. There will also be several vendors available and every mom will receive a free corsage, with the first 50 receiving complimentary swag bags. In addition, a free snack table, door prizes and a free accessory will also be included if you bring in your Eventbrite ticket.

For the Dancers

Cinco de Mayo Latin Social at The Rhythm Room – 10:00 PM – 2:00 AM
If you’re looking for an event to learn some new dance moves AND socialize with other dancers, then this should not be ignored! The Rhythm Room’s Latin Social will feature performer/instructor Lee Rios, who has studied, taught and performed Salsa as well as other traditional Latin dances for over 15 years. There will be a $10 cover for this event, and it’s BYOB (or margarita)!

For the Night Owls

Cinco de Mayo Block Party – Suerte Bar & Grill – 6:00 PM – 2:00 AM
17th Street is going to be bumpin’ on Saturday night! The party starts at Suerte Bar & Grill, but it won’t end there! The other sister bars (Tres, Love Buzz and Thirsty Monkey) will also be celebrating Cinco de Mayo! Suerte will have food specials that include $5 Mexican burgers from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, 50-cent tacos from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, $1 Mexican hotdogs from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM and $3 elotes from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM, plus specials on drinks all night. Love Buzz will have $1 margaritas for the senoritas until 11:00 PM along with half-price pink tacos until midnight, and both Tres and Thirsty Monkey will have drink specials all night as well! Make it a Cinco de Mayo to remember!

Costa Messa will also be having 99-cent margaritas on the rocks from 5:00 PM until closing, El Divino will have drink specials AND a full Cinco de Mayo menu, including dishes like White Bean Sope, Green Chorizo and Queso Fresco starting at 5:00 PM, and Brujeria Nightclub and Shot Bar will be having drink specials starting at 10:00 PM.

112 Mother’s Day Brunch – Alberico Fine Wine & Bistro – 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Shop 112, in a partnership with Alberico Fine Wine & Bistro, will be hosting a Mother’s Day Brunch this weekend. Enjoy a brunch menu with front row seats to a Shop 112 fashion show! Their spring/summer collection will be highlighted with complimentary mimosas sponsored by Shop 112 as well as complimentary desserts provided by CC’s Sweets & Tweets.
