  • Head out to see Circus Saurus where you can watch the performances of amazing circus animals and acrobats pull off the impossible beginning at 6:00 PM!
  • Mark your planner for Art Walk @ Old Church Winery to get a free dancing lesson! Learn how to dance to the styles of cumbia, bachata, and salsa! Lessons will be offered from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM.

Saturday, February 2nd

  • Celebrate Lunar New Year Festival at the IMAS museum! From 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Expect a tea and food tasting session while learning how each culture celebrates the new year. You can purchase your tickets at the museum.
  • If you’re on the search for a new career, then make time to attend the McAllen Public Library Job Fair. Learn about available positions across the Valley and how to apply. Prepare your resumes now because the job fair only runs between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
  • Unwind at the McAllen Performing Arts Center to watch Tradiciones 2019 at 7:30 PM. Be inspired by musicians accompanying the group “Ballet Folklorico South Texas College.” You can purchase your tickets at the Performing Arts Center box office.

Sunday, February 3rd

  • Attend the Wedding & Quinceañera Expo at the McAllen Convention Center! You will have access to the newest, high-quality vendors for all of your big day needs! The expo is open Sunday only from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM and costs $10.
  • Get your fill of fresh groceries and handcrafted snacks at the Tres Lagos Farmers Market. This pet-friendly venue will be open from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM and is accessible to the public every first Sunday of the month!

January 25th

  • Start prepping for Super Bowl weekend at Vom FASS! Get some amazing dishes and beverages to host your friends and family! This free show-and-tell will feature the best types of Super Bowl snack pairings.
  • Keep the party going at the McAllen Car Fest, open Friday evening until 9:00 PM. See over 300 cars from various vehicle collections, and try your hand at the Miniature Car Drag Race! The Car Fest is open all weekend long!!

January 26th

  • Introduce your kids to the beauty of local art and craftsmanship this Saturday. The Farmers Market will be featuring select artisans and their high-valued goods!
  • Get your BBQ fix at the McAllen Car Fest BBQ Cook-Off! Try, taste, and critique dishes from all of the contenders and decide who has the best eats around!
  • Make memories with your kids and watch the comedy El Show de Chuponcito. See this mischievous clown as he sings and dances his way out of trouble along with his best pals! You can purchase your tickets through Ticketmaster.

January 27th

  • Give the little artist in your life some inspiration at the IMAS “Ojos de Dios” art class! Weave your creation based off of ancient Wixarika (Huichol) art! Also, enjoy a guided tour through the “Symphony of Color” exhibit.

The circus is in town! Get lost in the wonder presented by Circus Saurus and see ancient and mythical creatures like dinosaurs and a unicorn! Meet the wild characters of the Carson & Barnes Circus and loveable creatures like the Majestic Asian Elephants!

  • On Friday at the McAllen Convention Center, catch a movie at the drive-in movie theatre. Watch the film Need for Speed in anticipation of the upcoming international McAllen Car Festival!
  • Grab some grub at the McAllen Food Park UPLUGGED session! Listen to local music and explore the surrounding shops. Families are encouraged to bring their pets, and parking is free! It will be located at 10 N. Broadway and Ash Ave.
  • Grab your dancing partner and dance the night away at the Friday Night Dance Party, held at the Austin bar hosted by DJ Robert Ceballos! Come join the fun at 1110 Austin Ave.
  • Head over to Hillbilly’s to hear Sunny Sweeney live! A musician from Houston Texas, Sweeney is ready to celebrate Friday with you! The entry fee is $15 per person.

January 19th

  • The McAllen Marathon starts this Saturday at the McAllen Convention Center! Support others and enjoy the Marathon Health Expo! Get access to new health information, free health screenings, and more!
  • Keep the fun going with some shopping at the Saturday Evening Market! This local artisan spot is located off of Upas and 11th St. 
  • In the evening, immerse yourself in noodles! Attend Noodle Fest at Yerberia Cultura on Saturday evening to feast on tons of noodles provided by local restaurants. Then burn those calories while playing games and listening to music! The entry fee is $20.

January 20th

  • Start Sunday surrounded by dogs! Bring your dog to the Walk & Wag event at the Healing Juice Factory! Be a part of a training session and community pet walk!
  • Have you been hypnotized yet? If not, you are going to want to check out John Milton’s performance, Duermase! This event is available all weekend at the McAllen Convention Center. You can purchase tickets online at Ticketmaster!

Xin Xin Asian Fusion Cuisine

Xin Xin Asian Fusion Cuisine is a locally-owned restaurant that serves Pan Asian food, with fusions from both Chinese and Vietnamese cultures.

  • This restaurant offers savory, whole marinated duck and a whole roasted duck with a crispy skin. Both meal options come with your choice of rice.

Dragon Warrior Noodle

All of you ramen lovers should plan a trip to Dragon Warrior Noodle for dinner and try their variety of ramen and Asian street foods!

  • They serve shredded duck shoyu that includes ajitama – a styled boiled egg, shredded duck, roasted corn, and fried basil.

Le Lai Eastern Restaurant

This family-style restaurant is considered an Asian fusion eatery that takes a modern spin on traditional Chinese eats.

  • Le Lai offers both roast and crispy duck with portions of fried or steamed rice. They cut up the whole duck for you and can serve it with cilantro.

January 11 – South McAllen Activities

  • Saxet Gun Show – All you outdoor and Western-collectible enthusiasts will love this annual convention! This trade show includes vendors from Texas, with the latest products in tactical gear and target sports! The entry fee is $5.
  • In between the fun, walk on over to one of our nearby restaurants at Palm’s Crossing Center! Restaurants include Corner Bakery Café and Saltgrass Steakhouse.
  • John Milton Show – After a good meal, take your family to the McAllen Performing Arts Center to see John Milton’s hypnotist show, ¡Duermase! It will be playing all weekend and will leave you captivated and entertained! Purchase your tickets online through Ticketmaster or at the box office.

January 12 – Family Arts

  • Colibri Children’s Choirs – Embrace your child’s musical talents and let them audition for the Colibri Children’s Choir! This community-founded choir holds performances at the McAllen Creative Incubator and performs with the city! Auditions start at 10:00 AM at the McAllen Creative Incubator.
  • IMAS Workshops – Cub Scouts, get ready to earn your art or science badge at the IMAS workshop, Stories in Shapes! Learn about abstract art, create your own work, and take it home with you. Badges are not included in the workshop. The entry fee is $8 for IMAS members and $10 for non-members.

January 13 – Last Days of Fun

  • Photos of Maddie’s Holiday Lights – Don’t miss the last day for taking photos of Maddie’s Holiday Lights! This beautiful farm is filled with scenery and props to be used for photo ops! The entry fee is $7, but children two years and under enter for free. 
  • Wedding Fair – If you are newly-engaged, then grab your gal pals and make it a fun outing on Sunday! Attend the Wedding Fair at the McAllen Convention Center. The fair will be filled with Pinterest-worthy wedding services and vendors and raffles for those lucky brides-to-be.

Start the First Weekend of the Year in McAllen with These Events!

We’re about to reach the first weekend of 2019, and you know what that means! It’s time to celebrate with a night on the town and festive fun on January 4th and 5th! Enjoy crafts and music during this weekend in McAllen!

January 4th

Start the weekend with culture, music, and the arts! The McAllen Art Walk is here again! Starting at 6:00 PM, you can listen to music from local artists and visit all of the art studios surrounding the area. Take your friends through this self-guided tour to visit nearby galleries and museums! There’s no need to worry about leaving the Art Walk for food because there are many restaurants close to Archer Park!

If you feel like staying closer to the North 10th area, then visit the Hinovations Art Gallery! On Friday, January 4th at 6:00 PM, Charles Cecil’s photography collection, “Images of Israel”, will be on display. This color photography exhibition will highlight the cultural and national existence of Israel amongst the surrounding countries. Cecil has exhibited previous collections of his travels in Mexico, Prague, and Paris, to name a few. There is no cost to attend this event, so bring your friends!

Head over to Yerberia Cultura for a change of ambiance and listen to the medleys of Black Taffy. This Dallas-based composer uses technical instruments like the vibraphone and cassette decks to create an environment of awe-inspiring music. All ages are welcome to experience this performance at 8:00 PM.

January 5th

Get your shopping done before noon with The Shops at Upas & 11th Monthly Block Party. Here, you’ll find unique collectibles and local artisans. Find your decoration inspiration at these shops and enjoy the food trucks parked along the way!

Afterward from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, Quinta Mazatlán will be hosting “Exploring Nature with Technology”. This event is catered to adults and older teens who are interested in how the use of computers and smartphones enhances our study of nature. This is an outdoor event, so bring comfortable shoes!

Listen to Live Music

The weekends are the absolute best time to enjoy some live music and good food. Listen to musicians all over McAllen while dining at restaurants, including Santa Fe Steakhouse, Peppers, Birdie Bistro, and the Bodega Tavern.
