Get Ready to Celebrate the Fourth of July in McAllen with All of These Family-Friendly Events!

Bring the whole family for the City of McAllen’s Independence Day Celebration presented by HEB! Enjoy a parade full of patriotic floats, musical performances, food, fireworks, and more this Thursday.

Thursday, July 4th

  • 8:00 AM – The Patriotic Program will take place at the Archer Park Stand. Here, you and your family can take an opportunity to reflect and recognize the true meaning of our Independence Day.
  • 9:00 AM – The Main Street Parade will begin with a route starting at Houston St. and continuing to Beech St.
  • 10:00 AM – The Freedom Festival at Archer Park will start and end at 2:00 PM. You can expect classic family fun, music, food, games, and more!
  • 1:00 PM – Aquatica Extreme will start at the Municipal Pool until 4:00 PM. There is a fee of $2.50 per person. Expect a lot of fun for everyone! The event will include games, contests, crafts, music, and more!
  • 6:00 PM – The Independence Day 4K Run at Municipal Park will begin. The packet pick-up will also begin at 6:00 PM and the race begins at 7:00 PM. There will be a fee of $20 per person. You can register online by clicking here.
  • 7:00 PM – Concert in the Sky Extravaganza at Municipal Park will be held until 10:00 PM. There will be plenty of games, food, music, and entertainment.
  • 9:00 PM – An amazing Fireworks Show will begin at 1921 N. Bicentennial Blvd.!

  • Make time for a Mansion Tour at Quinta Mazatlán from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The cost of admission is only $3!
  • Photo Fun Friday’s at Quinta Mazatlán will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
  • Summer Splash will be held at the IMAS from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. This is a special event for new and existing IMAS members.
  • Join Food Park: Unplugged featuring twelve food trucks, live music, and more! This event is happening from 8:00 PM until 10:00 PM.
  • Celebrate Fantasyland Skate Center’s Grand Opening from 1:00 PM until 11:00 PM.
  • Summer Solstice Social at The Gremlin is scheduled to happen from 10:00 PM until 2:00 AM.
  • Roof 324 presents: Waikiki Tiki ROOF starting at 7:00 PM.
  • International Day of Yoga at the McAllen Nature Center will happen from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
  • Summer Tiki Party at Bourbon St. Grill will begin at 4:00 PM.
  • Summer Solstice at The Yard will begin at 6:00 PM. Bounce between the Aguas Frescas bar or the DJ booth, hula some hoops, or slurp your way to victory in the watermelon eating contest!

  • Have some laughs at Friday Night Funnies at London Grill and Tavern from 8:00 PM until 10:00 PM. There will be a $5 admission fee.

  • Super Hero Father’s Day Card Workshop for Kids + Parents at Kaboom Comics from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM. The admission price is $7 for the workshop per participant. All workshop materials will be provided.
  • Doughnuts with Dad at Small Fries Music from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. There will be doughnuts and a free 30-minute “Daddy & Me” class that includes singing, dancing, and playing instruments together.

Saturday, June 1st

  • Try Tai Chi Under the Oaks at the McAllen Nature Center from 8:00 AM until 9:00 AM. Park admission is a $1 per person suggested donation.
  • Be a part of Heroes Run 2019 at Town Lake at Fireman’s Park from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Register at Valley Running Company located at 1701 W. Dove Ave. J or online by clicking here.
  • Stop by the Block Party at The Shops at Upas & 11th from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The market will feature a collection of local artisans, local crafters, seasonal decor, and so much more!
  • Enjoy Movies in the Park at Westside Park Ballfields from 7:00 PM until 10:30 PM. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic items for a unique movie experience! Food trucks will be available. This event is FREE!
  • Visit PetSmart for a Kitten Adoption Event at 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. This event will continue on Sunday from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM.

  • Join a staff naturalist for an early Bird & Nature Walk at the McAllen Nature Center from 8:30 AM until 10:00 AM.
  • Dino Week at the IMAS continues this weekend with a variety of dino-related activities! This event begins at 10:00 AM and ends at 5:00 PM on Friday and Saturday but will be from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Sunday.
  • Join a special Mansion Tour at Quinta Mazatlán from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Learn about the interesting history and stories of the Quinta Mazatlán mansion and the nature that surrounds it. The cost of admission is $3.00.
  • McAllen High School’s award-winning production of Newsies: The Musical is back for two more performances beginning on Friday at 7:30 PM and Saturday at 2:30 PM. Purchase tickets online by clicking here.
