This coming weekend will be full of family-friendly events! Back-to-school giveaways, Yoga at the Market on Saturday, and a live performance from UTRGV’s Chamber Winds at the IMAS on Sunday are just a few of the things you can look forward to!
Friday, August 9th
- Let’s Draw at the IMAS is scheduled from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Only dry mediums are permitted. The event is recommended for ages six and up with accompanying adults. For entrance fees, please click here.
- Join Crisis Counseling Program for a Storytime/Backpack Giveaway at Barnes & Noble Northcross on 10th beginning at 11:00 AM. FREE backpacks will be given out to story time and activity attendees! NOTE: There is a very limited quantity, so first come, first serve!
- Afternoon Movie: Detective Pikachu at the McAllen Public Library is scheduled from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
- Anniversary Celebration at Southern Roots Flower Market will take place from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
- Intro to Poi (Art of Fire Spinning) at the McAllen Nature Center is set from 6:15 PM until 7:00 PM. There is a suggested donation of $1 per person.
- Join Sunset Yoga at the McAllen Nature Center from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM. There is a suggested donation of $1 per person.

Saturday, August 10th
- Tai Chi Under the Oaks at the McAllen Nature Center will happen from 8:00 AM until 9:00 AM. There is a suggested donation of $1 per person.
- Beginners Butterfly Walk at the McAllen Nature Center is set from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. There is a suggested donation of $1 per person.
- Radio Para Mi Back 2 School Bash 2019 at La Plaza Mall will happen from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM. There will be games, prizes, and many gifts.
- Nature Detective Walk at Quinta Mazatlán will happen from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM. There is a park admission fee of $3.
- Star Wars: Punk Art Workshop for Kids & Parents is happening at Kaboom Comics from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM. There is a fee of $8 per participant.
- Nature Nuggets will be held at Quinta Mazatlán from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. There is a park admission fee of $3.
- Visit the IMAS’s Exhibit Opening of Turmoil & Tranquility from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM. For entrance fees, please click here.
- Practice Yoga at the McAllen Farmers Market from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM.
- Lego Club at the McAllen Public Library is scheduled from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
- Claws for Paws will be held at Roosevelt’s at 7 from 4:00 PM until 11:30 PM.
- Free Car Show at Texas Tops Truck Accessories will take place from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM.
Sunday, August 11th
- Back to School Cuts & Giveaways at Barber Studio on 10th will be happening from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Take advantage of free school supplies, raffles, and free haircuts for kids aged four through 12.
- Vegan Brunch at The Healing Factory Juice & Co. is set to take place from 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM.
- Free Family Sunday Funday at the IMAS will happen from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
- Make-N-Take Crafts at the McAllen Public Library is set from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
- UTRGV Chamber Winds will be performing at the IMAS from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
