The South Texas Book Festival is a celebration of culture and imagination by linking readers of all ages with authors, performers, and publishers, and fulfilling the mission of the McAllen Public Library as a place where people and ideas meet and connect.
South Texas Book Festival is kicking-off 2019 with a sports-themed Pep Rally on Saturday, November 9, 2019. The fun continues ALL DAY, Sunday, November 10, 2019 with a diverse lineup of over twenty (20) national, regional and local authors, narrators and illustrators. This free community festival promotes literacy for children, teens, and their families and is the largest festival of its kind south of San Antonio.
Linking young readers with authors and illustrators on the doorsteps of the McAllen Public Library, the South Texas Book Festival enjoys a growing reputation reaching 7,500 attendees in 2018. Since the inaugural festival in 2014, McAllen has enjoyed the likes of Matt de la Pena, author of the Newbery Award winning book Last Stop on Market Street and The Living. Award-winning author and storyteller, Dianne de las Casas. Pura Belpre Award winners Xavier Garza and David Bowles. Erica Sanchez, author of I am not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter.
