McAllen Performing Arts Center

Since 2007, the McAllen Convention Center District and its lush surrounding landscape has quickly developed into a gathering place for the entire Rio Grande Valley as well as guests from Mexico and has become the cultural core of the US/Mexico border.  Civic leaders aimed to create a unique experience for visitors and make the convention center district a destination area for all with careful planning, precision, and detail.

The 174,000 square foot McAllen Convention Center is a tremendous source of civic pride by providing high profile entertainment, expos, weddings, quinceaneras, fundraisers, business meetings and more. Most of all, it has enhanced the area with its custom landscape, glistening pond and picturesque views.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the entertainment and cultural offerings of events hosted by the Convention Center as well as the newly opened state-of-the-art McAllen Performing Arts Center.  This stunning 93,000 square foot facility aims to provide a wide variety of nationally recognized productions of music, dance and theater.  Since the opening in November 2016, the performing arts center stage has been graced by the presence of Tony Bennett, John Milton, as well as Broadway hit shows such as Annie, Jersey Boys, and Mamma Mia.  Future performances include The Illusionists, Jay Leno, Ballet San Antonio, Menopause: the Musical, Shen Yun, Dirty Dancing, Franco De Vita, La Oreja de Van Gogh, La Doble Moral and more! The City of McAllen is committed to enhancing the arts and cultural experience by delivering the most advanced performing arts center to include 1,800 seats with three levels of seating, a four-story tower and a Membership lounge inside overlooking the neighboring Oval Park and the McAllen Convention Center.

Along with the attractions, visitors can treat their palates to a multitude of eateries and plenty of retail therapy all within walking distance.  For those out town guests looking for accommodations, the selections do not disappoint.  Newly opened hotels range from La Quinta Inn & Suites, Embassy Suites by Hilton, Cambria Suites, and the soon to open iStay Hotel.  Each property plays a part in accommodating the burst of business travelers, tourists, and conventioneers, which occupy the space within steps of the Convention Center.

City leaders are enthusiastic about watching these plans come to fruition and to see how the McAllen Convention Center District has gained a strong momentum in recent years and spurred economic development for the region. Most of all, through the community’s support, it has and will continue to provide a place to visit, work, play and stay overnight.
